Echo Refresh

My Echo quilt pattern is one of my favorites - it's made of just four jumbo log cabin blocks!

I recently remade this quilt (and updated the pattern) in the River Walk batiks by Jean Wells for Island Batik. I love the greens and teals in this color palette, and this might be my most favorite version yet!

The quilt measures 72" square - a great size for a couch snuggle quilt.

Diane Oakes did a beautiful job machine quilting this - here are some detail shots.

The pattern is available as a downloadable pdf in my Etsy shop; below is a list of quilt shops carrying the Riverwalk fabric and kitting the quilt if you'd like to make this version yourself.

Summer Twilight Blog Hop

When Tammy Silvers asked me to play with the batiks in her new Summer Twilight collection from Island Batik, I was happy to! Teals, blues, greens and fuchsia - such a great color palette! I especially love the sparkly star shapes and the dotted mounds.

I recolored four of my quilt patterns in Tammy's fabrics. Take a look:

Sew a Garden - Nine rows of piecing fun!

Pennant Party - Appliqued pennants with the option of creating 3D pennants that flap!

On the Go - One-seam blocks! Available in baby and lap quilt sizes

Rhombi - A variation on a log cabin block

I'm not the only one playing with the Summer Twilight fabrics - check out what these other talented designers have done as well!

Sea Cookies Quilt Gallery

Hello! My friend Kate Colleran has a new collection from Island Batik called Sea Cookies. She asked her friends to play with her fabrics, and I was happy to join in! Kate was inspired by her love of the beach--any beach--and the collection started with the sand dollar motif.

After the cold, gray and dreary weather we've had lately, it was a delight to play with these fabrics, even just digitally! I'm a huge teal/aqua/turquoise fan, so while those colors especially appeal to me, I love how the magentas and pinks blend right in. I had so much fun trying out these fabrics in some of my quilt designs.

Here's my Opposite Directions quilt. Since the Sea Cookies collection has a range of values in each color, I was able to create a gradated effect in the rows.

That's a Swirl! This quilt combines applique and reverse appliqued, all raw-edge. I love how the colors pop in these batiks.

Ebb & Flow uses two quilt blocks to create a design that yep...ebbs and flows.

The Off the Rails runner is another pattern that works beautifully with light, medium and dark values of different colors. This runner stitches up quickly for summer-y table decor.

FrequencyChoose one background print to contrast with five different colors for this easy quilt. Each column is made from one colored strip to create a disappearing effect.

Kate has a blog post about today's IG hop as well. See it here.

Wonky Spirals meets Savannah!

Hello there! I'm excited to be part of Tammy Silvers' Savannah Blog Hop today. Tammy's Savannah collection with Island Batik was inspired by the architecture and ironwork details of one of her favorite Georgia cities, and you'll love how that translates into fabric.

I fell in love with the colors and motifs in her Savannah fabric line when I first saw them, and now that I have the fabrics in hand, I can guarantee that they're even more mouth watering in person.

Let's get right to the quilt, shall we?
I chose to use a dark background and sew my Wonky Spirals quilt, using all the lighter, brighter colors as spirals that would pop with the contrast.
Get the pattern here.

The Wonky Spirals pattern uses improv log cabin techniques, and each block turns out unique, which I love. Adding sashing and borders in the background color makes the spirals look like they're floating.

This rainbow-y print is one of my favorites!

Aren't those colors vibrant?!

Just for fun, I played around with the fabrics and a few other patterns.
Here's my Ebb & Flow quilt, using a lighter background.

Frequency, with a dark background:

And Twister. This quilt feels like rainbow sherbet to me. :)

Make sure you visit all the other stops on this blog hop - there's so much quilty inspiration!

Peacock Plumes Virtual Blog Hop

Hello! It's my day on the Peacock Plumes Virtual Blog Hop, and I'm excited to share how Tammy's fabric collection looks in a few of my quilt patterns.

These Island Batik fabrics have such a fun fall vibe--perfect for the season.

I used the full collection in my On the Go quilt--pairing the batiks with white helps the colors to really pop!

Purchase the On the Go pattern here.

I'm a teal girl at heart, so I knew I wanted to use a limited color palette of mostly teals in one design. Here's Ribbon Weave, a wall hanging/table topper, in all its teal glory.

Purchase the Ribbon Weave pattern here.

Swirls, anyone? The That's a Swirl applique quilt is packed with design appeal, and pairing the batiks with solid black enhances the contrast. This quilt is all about the cutting--the only piecing is sewing the blocks together. Fusible web does the rest.

Purchase the That's a Swirl quilt pattern here.

When I first saw Tammy's Peacock Plumes fabric, I knew immediately that I wanted to audition them in my Frequency quilt pattern. I had so much fun, I couldn't decide which to share, so I'm showing them all to you!

Echo in Plum Pudding Fabrics!

Have you been following the Plum Pudding Blog Tour?

Plum Pudding is the new signature line for Island Batik and I was eager to join the blog tour with Sherry from Powered by Quilting. I'm excited that it's my day to show off what I've made with this gorgeous fabric! I'm a big fan of batiks, and the palette for this collection is fantastic--low volume, deep blues, wintry prints...what could be better?

When I saw the Plum Pudding fabrics, I thought immediately of my Echo quilt pattern, which uses low volume prints. But then I decided to switch things up and use the darker blues in the "background" and the low volume and lighter prints for the main design of the quilt. I think it looks almost like an eight-pointed snowflake!

The Echo quilt is made up of four jumbo log cabin blocks. Which means once the blocks are complete, the quilt is practically done--only four blocks to join!

I love the texture from the machine quilting. I started out quilting straight lines centered horizontally, vertically and diagonally. Then I quilted every other eighth with straight lines.  And then I just.couldn't.sew.any.more.straight.lines. So I did the alternating eighths with wavy lines using the free motion foot. I really like the contrast the two types of lines created!

Since there's no snow on the ground in June, I had my quilt holders stand in front of a group of pine trees (which you can barely see in this picture!). Pine trees seemed a little wintry to go with my snowflake quilt.

The Echo quilt is available in my Etsy shop and is 20% off through June 26th using code ECHO20.
Find it here.
